Fav Romcom: “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”

I believe everyone has their own childhood favorite movies of all time. And same as the others, I also have mine and today I wanna share one of my favorite childhood movies. I watched this film when I was still in junior high school and instantly get attached to it. This big screen project was quite a hit at that time and it’s called “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”, a 2003 romantic comedy film directed by Donald Petrie, starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey.

Thanks to this film, I set a dream of becoming a writer in a magazine and luckily after I graduated from college I got accepted as junior writer in a well-known online magazine and believe me I love the job a whole lot. But for some reasons, I decided to quite the job (I sometimes miss it though, the job suit me perfectly). I even used the name of Kate Hudson’s character in the movie as my alias (I remembered I was very thrilled about using this name).

This movie is very very hilarious yet romantic at the same time. Andie Anderson, portrayed by beautiful Miss Hudson, is a writer for the women's magazine Composure and was assigned to write a column for the magazine about the reverse tips of dating guides and the column would be titled the same as the movie’s name, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”. In the other hand, Matthew McConaughey portrays Benjamin Barry, an advertiser who is challenged by his collages and boss to date a girl and make the girl fall in love with him within a week.

One of Benjamin’s collages picked a girl intentionally for she knew that Andie was working for her dating reverse column, feeling confident that somehow Benjamin would lose the bet because Benjamin would never succeed in making Andie fall for him. During those 10 days, lots of hilarious things happened between Benjamin and Andie. Andie did whatever she thought every woman did that made their boyfriends ran away. Benjamin, in the other hand, was forced to make the relationship stay longer and patiently accepted all the madness Andie did to him.

And just every other fairy tales and romantic comedies has, the two eventually fall for each other and off course they ended up being together. But trust me if you among those romcom freaks just like me, you certainly can’t miss this movie.

2019 Teen RomCom Movies

Review time ………..

Do I need to stretch up since I haven’t done this for decades hahahahhaha …..
Okay right now I want to review three teenage romantic comedy films I watched recently. And what I mean teenage is yes these three movies cover stories about high school students. I have watched some teenage movies lately but I love these three so far. Okay let’s start.

Let’s start with the third from my personal charts. The third will be “Tall Girl”, released by Netflix on September 13, 2019. The movie is about a 16-year old girl, the tallest girl in school with height 6 ft 1 1⁄2 in (1.87 m) tall. Jodi, played by beautiful Ava Michelle, is constantly mocked by her classmates with their repeated same question, “how’s the sky up there?” Despite all that mockery, Jodi is actually a smart, kind, brave and loyal girl. She has these two bestfriends Jack Dunkleman, portrays by Griffin Gluck, who has crush on her for years, and eccentric Anjelika Washington as Fareeda, who will stand for her no matter what. And with the present of Stig Mohlin, a Swedish foreign exchange student who apparently is taller than Jodi, this tall girl instantly falls for. The struggle Jodi has to go through to get his attention has somehow shaken her friendship with Jack Dunkleman and Fareeda and trapped her in love triangle. But the film ends very nice with Jodi comes to realize that all she needs all this time is all what she already has.

Let’s move to the second from my personal charts and it goes to “The Last Summer”. I really really enjoy watching this romcom which tells a group of friends with each of their love, friendship and college problems they have to face during their final summer before college. One story follows KJ Apa as Griffin and Maia Mitchell as Phoebe, two brilliant students who both accepted in top universities and during those summer holiday the two fall for each other when Griffin helps beautiful Phoebe with her documentary film project. Another story follows Halston Sage as Erin and Jacob Latimore as Alec, Erin’s longtime boyfriend. The two decide to go to separate ways trying to be realistic since going to colleges in different country will, they believe, eventually break them apart. Other follows Erin’s best friend Audrey played by Sosie Bacon and Wolfgang Novogratz as Foster, Alec’s bestfriend. Separately the two portrayed struggled with what they really want and what they try to achieve.

And finally, the first from my personal charts goes to (drumroll pelase ….) “To All the Boys I've Loved Before”. The 2018 American teen romance movie is based on Jenny Han’s 2014 novel of the same name. It started with Lara Jean, portrays by Lana Condor, with all her love letters she wrote for all the boys she had a crush on and kept all those letters in her closet. The last letter she wrote was to her childhood friend Josh, who is dating her older sister Margot. But Margot and Josh break up when Margot moves to college. The things get messed up when Lara’s little sister Kitty sneaks into Lara’s room, finds the love letters and decides to send all those letters to the intended destination. The next day, Lara is confronted by her former crush Peter Kavinsky, played by Noah Centineo, who claims to receive her love letter through mail. Lara and Peter decide to play as a fake couple in order to get the attention of Josh and Peter’s ex-girlfriend.  But during that fake relationship, the two realize that they can’t live apart.

Korean Dramas ‘You've Fallen For Me / Heartstrings’

Hi again, it’s been quite a while. In this post, I will discuss my new favorite Korean series called “Heartstring”. I first saw it on my local TV channel then I decided to buy the DVD.

“Heartstring” covers a story about 2 university students studying music. The male man character named Lee Shin played by CN Blue’s lead vocal and guitarist, Jung Yong Hwa. Lee Shin, as who he is in real life, characterized as a student who expertly plays guitarist and he studies modern/western music.

In the series, Lee Shin is the vocalist and guitarist of the band The Stupid. Lee Shin is a very popular boy amongst girls. He is portrayed as a cocky and cold-hearted person but he is a very gentle, nice and soft person inside. During the first period of the series, Lee Shin likes a dance professor named Jung Yoon Soo played by So Yi Hyun.

For his love for the professor, Lee Shin is rejected. But Lee Shin eventually realize that what he feels for Jung Yoon Soo is not love once he meets the female main character Lee Gyu Won, played by Park Shin-hye. Lee Gyu Won, a cheerful, beautiful and smart student, is majoring in traditional Korean music gayageum. Lee Gyu Won lives with her grandfather Lee Dong Gun who is one of the top 3 traditional music prodigies.

Lee Shin and Lee Gyu Won become entangled after Lee Gyu Won failed in a music competition against Lee Shin and his band The Stupid. Lee Gyu Won then has to serves as his maid for some while. They again entangled as the two join a big performance for the university festival. Lee Gyu Won who first falls for Lee Shin finally finds that Lee Shin has a feeling for her too.

5 Worst Movies of 2011

Hi there,

2011 will soon end. And since I really like movies, I decided to write 5 worst movies of 2011. These movies weren’t fully my pick since I collected reviews from critics. So, I hope you enjoy reading this post.

‘Red Riding Hood’

This movie sure reminds us of a kid tale which has the same title. “Red Riding Hood”, released in March, tells a girl named Prudence who is played by Amanda Seyfried in a town of Daggerhorn where periodic wolf attacks hunt. Also shows Billy Burke, Shiloh Fernandez, Gary Oldman and Max Irons, the Catherine Hardwicke-directed movie however called “much, much sillier than ‘Twilight’ “ by Time. Meanwhile, The Verdict as quoted by RedEye Chicago called the teen werewolf tale “accumulates evidence that points to only one possible culprit, but still provides a red herring montage so Valerie can recap the suspects.” The site added, “My, what a small brain she has.”

Sucker Punch’

Well honestly, I couldn’t more agree with this one. “Sucker Punch” is a 2011 action-fantasy-thriller film which stars Emily Browing, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone and Vanessa Hudgens. This March-released big screen project tells fantasies of a young woman who is locked up in a mental institution. According to Time, this project was supposed about girl power but instead came off as “wildly exploitative sexism.” For addition, Movies Online wrote, “There has not been a single movie released so far this year that looks as fantastic as this movie does and be utterly pointless and flawed in almost every aspect.”

‘Zookeeper’

The comedy film which was released on July 8, stars Kevin James and features the voices of Adam Sandler, Sylvester Stallone, Nick Nolte, Rick Rickles and Judd Apatow has been called by Time’s reviewers the “worst children’s movie’ of this year. Moreover, Geln Kenny of MSN Movies was shocked at “how just godawful ‘Zookeeper’ is.” Meanwhile, David Hiltbrand of Philadelphia Inquirer as quoted by NY Daily News said, “If you’ve been waiting for Hollywood to produce a romantic comedy with a supporting cast made up of talking animals, …… Well, no, even then, ‘Zookeeper’ will let you down.”

X-Men: First Class’

Though I enjoy watching this movie, but I still have to make it to the list. “X-Men: First Class” has lots reviews on the cheesiness in the script and some shaky special effects here and there. According to The Guardian, the movie, which features James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, January Jones, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Zoe Kravitz and Nicholas Hoult, “is baggy and chaotic and over-long,” though the site added that the Matthew Vaughn-directed film is “watchable, often enjoyably bizarre, and with the occasional flash of cold steel.” Amy Biancolli of Hearst Movie Writer claimed, “Uneven, occasionally silly, true, but it's also an improvement over 2006's ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’.”

Breaking Dawn’

Ooooooo ……. I really hate to put this movie, which was adapted by a book wrote by Stephenie Meyer with the same name, into the list but I guess I have to be fair. I just love Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. I do agree that both of them look good together. Okay, enough talking about me being a fan of Twilight saga. Here we go, Time wote, “The arrival of the youngest Cullen, as directed by Bill Condon, felt like just another anticlimactic piece of this prim, weirdly pro-life, anti-fun saga. This was the bloodiest of the Twilight movies but somehow the most bloodless.”

"Lie to Me"

I’ve discussed “Personal Taste” and “Naughty Kiss”, my two favorites Korean dramas, in my previous posts. And now, I’d like to share my other favorite Korean series which for those who’s in love with Korean shows must see.

The series I’ve been talking about is “Lie to Me”, which similar to “Personal Taste” and “Naughty Kiss”, a romantic comedy dramas. “Lie to Me” was released in mid 2011 and I first watched it in August. The show features beautiful and talented Yoon Eun-Hye and Kang Ji-Hwan. Yoon Eun-Hye is famous for her roles in “Princess Hours”, “Coffee Prince”, “The Man of the Vineyard” and “My Fair Lady”. Meanwhile, Kang Ji-Hwan made his fame through his acts in “Coffee House”, “Scandal in Old Seoul”, “902 Days, Time to Love”, “Firewoks”, and “Scent of Summer”.

“Lie to Me” tells a funny yet romantic love story between Kong Ah-Jung and Hyun Ki-Joon, played by Yoon Eun-Hye and Kang Ji-Hwan respectively. Kong Ah-Jung, an administrative official for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, lied about her marital status to her high school friend because of her ego which eventually drags Hyun Ki-Joon, the president for conglomerate "World Group”, a hotel chain, making him as if he is Kong Ah-Jung’s husband.

Although Hyun Ki-Joon is at first furious about the unplanned lie, he then made a contract with Kong Ah-Jung, making her as his camouflage wife for his business’ sake. Though they first met as two strangers, they become real lovers (I really like the love chemistry between Yoon Eun-Hye and Kang Ji-Hwan).

So if you haven’t seen it, go get the vcds or dvds and have a great time, which I’m sure you all will :D

장난스런 키스 / Naughty Kiss

I’ve discussed “Personal Taste”, one of the best Korean dramas I’ve seen and now I want to share one more. It’s called 장난스런 키스 / Jangnanseureon Kiss or you can call it “Naughty Kiss” in English. I first saw it about three weeks ago and instantly falling in love with the story line, characters and it makes me love Korea even more.

“Naughty Kiss” is about a high school student named Oh Ha Ni who falls for her school mate Baek Seung Jo, who is described as a very cool, handsome, cold and brilliant student. One day, Oh Ha Ni decides to send a love letter to Baek Seung Jo who doesn’t know anything about her. Instead of getting good response, Oh Ha Ni finds out that Baek Seung Jo corrects her grammar in her letter as if it was a test paper.

Oh Ha Ni then decides to try to forget him but because of an earthquake which destroys her house, she and her father end up living together with a very very nice family whom her father knows from childhood. And guess what, Baek Seung Jo is the first son of those sweet parents. Since now Oh Ha Ni and Baek Seung Jo live under the same roof, Oh Ha Ni finds it even difficult to try to forget Baek Seung Jo.

“Naughty Kiss” follows Oh Ha Ni and Baek Seung Jo’s love story up to their college live. Oh Ha Ni’s four years of love for her loved one finally pays off. I can’t tell detail of the story just make sure you watch it and I guarantee you’re going to love it

Personal Taste

Hi again, 안녕하세요,

Tonight, I prefer to share to you my favorite Korean drama which I have probably watched five times in a row. The title is….. jan…. 개인의 취향 / Kaeinui Chwihyang / Personal Taste. It is played by my one of the kind Lee Min Ho and Soh Yen Jin. Lee Min Ho, who plays Jeon Jin Ho is an architect whose life focuses on his job. Soh Yen Jin, who portrays Park Kae In is an …… honestly, I don’t know how you call in English. She designs chair, sofas, and other furniture. That’s what she does for living.

In short, Jeon Jin Ho and Park Kae In end up living together under the same roof in a famous Korean traditional house owned by Kae In and designed by his father who leaves her living alone as he teaches in Europe. Kae In thinks that Jin Ho is a gay and Jin Ho knows that Kae In mistakenly thinks about his sexuality.

Eventually, both of them fell for each other although the two of them have to face some obstacles. Things that I like about this series are the two characters don’t argue because of misunderstandings unlike other series, it’s so romantic, simple, yet make senses. I urge each of you who haven’t seen this drama to get the DVD and watch it soon as you have it. And enjoy, hopefully you’ll love it as much as I do….. or even more.

Breaking Dawn I

I love this couple, although I didn't really like Kristen Stewart. Just read from Us Magazine that the two recently shot a swimming pool scene for the latest installment of "Twilight" saga in Rio de Janeiro in early December.

Through pictures outed by PopSugar, "Twilight" devotees could get a closer glimpse of Robert Pattinson stripping to his skimpy black boxer while Kristen showed her stunning bod in white two-piece swimsuit.

Though Robert and Kristen have been caught locking lips and going out together in several occasion, they haven't confirmed they relationship yet. I personally thought that they don't have to come clean about their romance to the media coz it's their personal issue. I do hope the pair could get together although they have completed the second installment of "Breaking Dawn".
